Bilt Offers Free Rent Reporting: Meeting Evolving Compliance Requirements While Helping to Build Resident Credit
Nov 7, 2025
Rent reporting is transitioning from a resident amenity to a regulatory requirement. In April 2025, California expanded its mandate that many properties provide tenants with the option to report positive rent payment history to credit bureaus upon tenant request. As California has historically set trends in consumer protection legislation, similar requirements may emerge in additional markets.
This shift creates both a compliance obligation and an opportunity. While these mandates typically involve processing costs and administrative overhead, Bilt has provided the option for free rent reporting as a core platform feature since our launch: positioning property managers in the Bilt Alliance ahead of emerging regulations while offering residents a valuable, no-cost benefit.
Strategic Value for Properties
Bilt's leasing and loyalty platform can help properties comply with new industry regulations without system modifications, added operational costs, or new vendor relationships.
Bilt's rent reporting feature, Credit Boost, automatically reports on-time rent payments to the major credit bureaus for residents who opt in—eliminating compliance costs while creating a competitive advantage to attract and retain residents who value credit history building tools.
Implementation is straightforward: teams currently using Bilt can leverage our existing rent reporting infrastructure, while properties joining the Bilt Alliance gain rent reporting capabilities from day one.
“Rent reporting through Bilt has been extremely valuable for GoldOller residents, and it's at no cost to us,” said Ariel Hanson, Director of Operations at GoldOller. “Bilt also offers educational tools and benefits to help renters build their credit history, including concrete actions to improve their credit scores, such as using points to help pay down student loans.”
How Bilt's Rent Reporting Works for Residents
When a resident enrolls in rent reporting, Bilt automatically reports on-time rent payments to three major credit bureaus: Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. The process operates seamlessly within Bilt's existing payment infrastructure and requires no action from property management teams.
For residents, this can transform routine monthly rent payments into a powerful way to build credit history, which can be particularly valuable for renters establishing or rebuilding their credit profiles.
